#RediscoverBBB: If Walls Could Talk

Vibrant and diverse, the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct is endlessly fascinating, filled with heritage at every turn. Rediscover the lesser-known stories of this historical neighbourhood through this series of mural installations.

'River Trade'
As a bustling place of trade, entertainment and small businesses, the Bugis brought various goods for trade in Singapore. This mural depicts a Bugis merchant on his ship, with goods such as tortoiseshell, birds’ nest, sandalwood, beeswax, cotton and coffee.

'Art School'
Bras Basah Road, initially named College Street, provided a setting for Singapore’s earliest schools. Today, institutions like The School of the Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts, and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts bring student life to the precinct. This mural is a nod to the creativity that practically bursts out of the neighbourhood.

'Diverse Neighbourhood'
From as far back as the 19th century, the BBB precinct has been marked by diversity and eclecticism, with communities of Chinese, Eurasians, Jews, Malays, Indians, Sikhs, Japanese, Armenians, and Europeans living in close proximity. This mural pays homage to the energy and kampung spirit of the time.
