Living Spaces and Beyond: Folklores from My Neighbourhood

This Residency project is an attempt to define living space not in terms of physical borders but by the common stories and imagination shared by diverse people within the community. Drawing from folklore, ghost stories, and residents’ personal memories of Loyang, Pasir Ris and beyond, and a search for the origins of Tua Pek Kong Temple and Kuala Loyang road, the team pieced together the heritage and history of Loyang. The showcase will feature a wall map of Loyang recreated with the community as well as paintings by residents expressing their stories and aspirations for the future.

This project is part of the Community Arts Residency at Loyang Point in collaboration with the Housing Development Board.

For the House; Against the House takes the form of a debate where artworks, not words, make arguments. Drawing from the private collections of Jo and the DUO Collection, curators John Tung and Syed Muhd Hafiz set propositions for artists to respond through their practices. The new works are pitted against the storied collections.
