Resilience Texture --- Kumiko Matsushima First Solo Exhibition in Singapore

Kumiko was born and raised in Tokyo, lived in California, New York City, Hong Kong, and now has been in Singapore for nearly three years. She miraculously recovered from neurotic depression by painting when in Manhattan. Since then she has been creating art under the theme of “resilience,” and “survival.” In this Resilience Texture series, she attempted to explore how one could seek unity and harmony with the outer world including other individuals and the environment. The outer world is stitched in all the different colors and textures. Kumiko found beauty in walls in Asia. And she experimented to seek ways to connect oneself and the outer world( walls ) using acrylic paint. She firmly believes that there must be not only one way in which we are able to unite ourselves with the outer world in harmony.
