Fyerool Darma: l♠ndsc♠pes

Yeo Workshop is pleased to present l♠ndsc♠pes, a series of new works by Fyerool Darma. In this new direction, drawing equally upon illusion and allusion, Fyerool weaves archival and advertisement texts into slogans, alongside artifactual and artefictional materials. Objects and paintings are translated into handphone cases, textiles, sculptures and drawings in an effort to address the hypervisual climate. The presentation sees the artist continuing his bleach paintings interspersing them with highlighter drawings, embroideries on handphone cases and obj series as visual exercises in composing oneself, and decomposing images, to recompose a visual pantun or culturally-portable modular quatrain in a context of hypervisuality and climate change. Fyerool sees the internet and archives as a reservoir of visual and textual datasets, inevitably as beings and atoms awaiting collaborative exercises. This presentation has been developed in experimental antilinear conversation with curator Karin Oen. Biography Fyerool Darma (b. 1987) continues to live and work in Singapore. His object and material experimentations are based on an extensive visual vocabulary drawn from popular culture, literature, the archives, the Internet, and his own life. Karin Oen, PhD is a curator and art historian based in Singapore where she is Principal Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Art and Design at NTU’s School of Art, Design, and Media.
