Blood, the primal connection that defines all living beings. In a society of convenience, it is easy to forget to question the animal resources that we consume as bodies of habit, because we are now disconnected from the ways of slaughter. How do we, as individuals, perceive the value of organic material?
In "血, Blood", the artist replaces the animal material with human material to question one’s ethical and emotional value on things that they perceive and consume on a daily basis. Utilising the archetype of a heirloom – blood samples, hair, and objects of memory were collected from volunteers to construct several sets of the Four Treasures of the Study (文房四寶) that depicts and objectifies each individual’s (monetary) worth. The exhibition will exist as an interactive installation, accompanied with video works for an immersive space that explores the conflict on the worth of humanity.
"血, Blood" is a collaborative project organised and curated by An Asylum. Featuring Yuyan, a LASALLE graduate whose works explore the observations of human behaviour and emotions across product design and art. Often alienated from society’s common perspectives toward various subjects, Yuyan creates works to speak up about the differences in her views against the world.
