Each year, in appreciation of the contributions made by sponsors toward the promotion and development of the arts, the National Arts Council endorses nominations of corporations and individuals for conferment of the prestigious Patron of the Arts Awards.
Nominations for the 2010 Patron of the Arts Awards is now open. Please submit your nominations by 14 May 2010. The recipients of the 2010 Patron of the Arts Awards will be announced in the last quarter of 2010.
 Nominees must have contributed the following amounts, in cash or in kind, during the period of 1 January to 31 December 2009:
- Patron of the Arts Award: $300,000 and above
- Friend of the Arts Award: $100,000 - $299,999
- Associate of the Arts Award: $50,000 - $99,999
- Arts Supporter Award: $10,000 - $49,999
- Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award
The Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award is given to individuals or organisations which receive the Patron of the Arts Award on the fifth consecutive occasion. It is also awarded for contributions of S$1,500,000 and above made in one year, or within five years from 2005 onwards. With every subsequent yearly contribution of S$300,000, the individual or organisation will continue to receive the Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award.
To guide your submission of cash and in-kind nominations, please refer to the evaluation criteria below:
- The arts activities, including those held at the community level, must have a significant impact on the artistic development in Singapore and must not be part of the organisations’ core strategies, business operations or marketing plans.
- The relevant art genres are music, drama/ theatre, dance, film, literature, photography and the visual arts. Folk, traditional, classical and contemporary forms of the relevant art genres are eligible for nomination.
- Cash donations towards performances, competitions, exhibitions and scholarship programmes, or sponsorship of arts facilities, equipment and music instruments are eligible for nomination.
- In-kind sponsorship must meet the need of the beneficiary and offer real cost savings to the beneficiary.
- Discounts, bonus, upgrades, value-adds and waivers are part of business negotiations to obtain best value for money, and shall not be considered as in-kind sponsorship.
- Marketing partnerships such as official media, official website, official hotel, etc which requires dollar investment from the beneficiary is a sales purchase, and shall not be considered as in-kind sponsorship. For marketing deals that require no dollar investment from the beneficiary, the product or service offered must meet the need of the beneficiary to be considered as in-kind sponsorship.
- Product giveaway shall not be considered as in-kind sponsorship as it involves the product owner paying a fee to the beneficiary to distribute or display its product. However if the product giveaway meets the needs of the beneficiary, it shall be considered as in-kind sponsorship.
- With the inaugural Patron of Heritage Awards by the National Heritage Board in 2007, contributions towards museum/heritage collections, and any activity, project, programme or event recognised under the Patron of Heritage Awards, will no longer be recognised under the Patron of the Arts Awards.
A person or organisation must be based in Singapore to be eligible for the Awards. The following organisations are eligible:
- Commercial and industrial corporations
- Registered organisations and institutions
- Private/Public trusts and foundations
The Council reserves the right to revise the rules and procedures or waive them at its own discretion, in keeping with the spirit and purpose of the Award. In all these matters, the decision of the Council is final.
Any person, including a representative of a nominee, may submit a Nomination Form, together with receipts and/or other supporting documents related to the sponsorship. Any nomination, even if it does not meet the minimum qualifying contribution amount of S$10,000, is strongly encouraged for submission so that the nominee can be accurately recognised for his cumulative contribution.
