The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally a time for families and friends to come together and experience culture through food, drinks and moon-lit lantern walks.
The Theatre Practice energises these treasured cultural traditions by bringing back the fun of lantern riddles, and using the art of storytelling to bring the folklore behind Chinese tea and cuisine to the masses. Inspired by the street-side storytellers of yesteryear, Mid-Autumn Madness is a cultural feast that aims to bring the arts to the community in a fun, engaging and educational way, by focusing on the favourite Singaporean pastime – food and drinks!
The stories performed will include how or nee (芋泥yam paste) gave the Chinese their pride back, the origins of dim sum, how ji di zhou (及第粥pigs’ innards congee) got its name and tea stories and tea-drinking customs
The performance will centre on the folk tales surrounding Chinese tea and delicacies, coupled with an interactive lantern riddle quiz and attractive prizes for quiz winners!
